Fruit Pouch Custard Toast

This delicious version of the viral Tik Tok custard toast will also help with those leftover fruit pouches in the fridge.

I’m back with another recipe for those leftover pouches hanging out in your fridge!

I can't lie. Even though I find a lot of the food trends I see on Tik Tok really cool and super creative, I don’t always leap to the kitchen to make them myself. A lot seem more like an arts and crafts experiment for the 'Gram more so than a practical and delicious recipe my family will eat. However, I was instantly intrigued by the latest custard toast trend I've seen everywhere.

Custard is such a decadent, refined treat, and who doesn’t love golden, crispy toast? Topped with some plump baked fruit, I didn't even think of resisting. I couldn’t wait to make this for us to try. It looked absolutely delicious and was so simple to create with ingredients I already had in the house…or so I thought.

When I went to make this custard toast, I realized we had no more yogurt. Cecily seldom leaves a spoonful of yogurt behind. HOWEVER, she does leave fruit pouches half full quite often! These Leftover Pouch Fruit Bars are delicious proof of that. I was on a mission now, and so I pivoted. Using our leftover pouches, I created this twist on the Tik Tok original on sliced sourdough bread, and it was absolutely delicious!

The fruit base is creamy, luscious, and just sweet enough, and the fruit on top baked into a bubbly, caramelized dream. Finished with a drizzle of honey and served with some super juicy and plump Cotton Candy Grapes, this Fruit Pouch Custard Toast became a beautiful, nutritious, and delicious weekend breakfast platter for the entire family.

Prep Time: 5 Minutes

Cook Time: 10 Minutes

Yield: 2 Slices Toast

Ingredients

2 slices: brioche, sourdough, or white bread, or a croissant sliced in half lengthwise

4 ounces fruit pouch contents (One full pouch or combined leftovers. Creamier pouch variations are best for this, like those with a banana or sweet potato base)

1 egg

1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

1 tablespoon heavy cream

1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey, plus more for topping

¼ cup blueberries or fruit of choice (Great options include sliced strawberries, peaches, grapefruit, or oranges, raspberries, and blackberries)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degree F.

  1. Whisk the fruit pouch, egg, vanilla, heavy cream, and maple syrup or honey together in a bowl.

  2. Use your fingers or back of a spoon to press an indentation in center of each slice of bread, creating a well for custard.

  3. Spoon custard into well of each slice. Top with fruit(s) of choice.

  4. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Serve drizzled with honey or maple syrup and sprinkled with lemon zest. A side of plump, juicy grapes is a perf addition, as well.
