This super simple Taco Seasoning & Rub recipe is perf for food prep, quick weeknight meals, and delicious Taco Tuesdays! Mix it with meat or fish, and enjoy over salads or with tacos.
This recipe description starts the same way many of my sentences start: "I got all of the ingredients at Trader Joes." To follow it exactly, you will need to make a trip to your nearest Trader Joes or check your current TJ spice inventory at home. Otherwise, you can try and improvise with other spices/spice blends you already have, or those you can find at your local grocery store.
One strong belief that I have about food prep is that it doesn’t always have to be the same stuff, and it doesn’t have to lack flavor or texture. Even if you prepare similar base sides and main dishes each week, you can always spruce and switch things up by using different spices, herbs, flavored oils, toasted nuts, simple sauces, and more!
This week, I added this robust Taco Seasoning Spice & Rub Blend to ground beef, and I’m also saving some to use as a quick rub on a few simple and delicious oven-baked fish dinners. Add this spice blend to ground beef, ground turkey, or as a rub on shrimp, cod, or halibut. We'll enjoy over salads or with tacos, and with prepped sides like roasted broccoli, quinoa, and mashed sweet potatoes. Remember: have FUN with your food prep =)
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Yield: ¼ cup (enough to mix with 1.5 lbs of ground meat)
Ingredients
1 teaspoon cumin
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
¼ teaspoon Onion Salt (from Trader Joes)
½ teaspoon Everything but the Elote Seasoning Blend (from Trader Joes)
¼ teaspoon nutritional yeast
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1.5 lbs lean ground meat or fish
1 tablespoon olive oil
¼ cup chopped parsley
¼ cup chopped cilantro
Directions
Mix the cumin, turmeric powder, TJ's Onion Salt, TJ's Everything but the Elote Seasoning Blend, nutritional yeast, salt, and pepper together in a small bowl until blended. Place aside.
*If making in a pan with ground meat or shrimp:
Add ground meat or shrimp, olive oil, parsley, and cilantro to a pan over medium heat.
Cook until 75% cooked, and then add the Taco Seasoning Spice & Rub. Continue to stir for two minutes, and then remove from heat. Stir for an additional minute or so, as the meat is still cooking and the flavors are still blending together.
Enjoy immediately or store in the fridge for meals throughout the week.
